Orton leads Bears to 29-26 OT win at Seattle

SEATTLE - Bloodied Rex Grossman hopes this wasn’t a knockout blow in his fight for the Bears’ quarterback battle.

Grossman started and completed 9 of 15 passes with one interception in a harried, sputtering quarter and a half before Kyle Orton led Chicago to a field goal during a crisp two-minute drill in the Bears’ 29-26 overtime win over the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night.

Today is your last chance to see the Bears up close

The Chicago Bears will practice from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Olivet Nazarene University. Gates open one hour prior to practice.

Thursday’s practice is closed to the public. The Bears break camp Thursday and conclude preseason training at Halas Hall in Lake Forest.

Bears schedule demystified

Years ago, a fourth-place finish in any of the National Football League’s divisions would have practically guaranteed a soft schedule the following season.

Those days are gone now as the NFL’s rotating schedule allows just two games to be based upon last year’s performance, a far cry from the days when about half of the 16 games were against teams with similar records the year before.

CHICAGO — In the grand scheme of things, the score of preseason football games does not matter much.

And although the Chicago Bears dropped a 24-20 decision to the visiting Kansas City Chiefs in a preseason opener for both squads Thursday night at Soldier Field, the positives balanced out the negatives from the Bears’ perspective.
