SEATTLE - Bloodied Rex Grossman hopes this wasn’t a knockout blow in his fight for the Bears’ quarterback battle.
Grossman started and completed 9 of 15 passes with one interception in a harried, sputtering quarter and a half before Kyle Orton led Chicago to a field goal during a crisp two-minute drill in the Bears’ 29-26 overtime win over the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night.
As I approached Ward Field to watch the Chicago Bears practice, I was kicking myself for agreeing to do an article because I had no ideas about what angle to approach it from. But I decided to watch the practice through the eyes of a basketball coach.
The Chicago Bears will practice from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Olivet Nazarene University. Gates open one hour prior to practice.
Thursday’s practice is closed to the public. The Bears break camp Thursday and conclude preseason training at Halas Hall in Lake Forest.

Years ago, a fourth-place finish in any of the National Football League’s divisions would have practically guaranteed a soft schedule the following season.

CHICAGO — In the grand scheme of things, the score of preseason football games does not matter much.
And although the Chicago Bears dropped a 24-20 decision to the visiting Kansas City Chiefs in a preseason opener for both squads Thursday night at Soldier Field, the positives balanced out the negatives from the Bears’ perspective.
