The Chicago Bears will return to Bourbonnais once again for the seventh year of training camp held at Olivet Nazarene University in late July.
The 2008 training camp practice schedule was released Thursday and the team will open the camp with a 3 p.m. practice on Wednesday, July 23.
The Bears were a disappointing 7-9 last year after coming off a spectacular 2006 campaign in which they racked up a 13-3 record and capped it off with an appearance in Super Bowl XLI.
The Monsters of the Midway are looking to fill some big shoes with the release of running back Cedric Benson.
During the recent OTA practices in Lake Forest, coach Lovie Smith was able to evaluate the play of his newcomers and veteran players. Some possible candidates for Benson’s job include second-round draft pick Matt Forte, veteran Adrian Peterson, 2007 third-round pick Garrett Wolfe, P.J. Pope and Matt Lawrence.
But with training camp still five weeks away, it’s still too soon to tell who will be on the field on opening day against the Indianapolis Colts on Sept. 7.
The Bears will hold Family Night on Aug. 1 at Soldier Field and conclude camp on Thursday, Aug. 14 at noon.
