Bears sign QB Teel from Seahawks

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears have signed quarterback Mike Teel to a two-year contract.

A sixth-round draft pick out of Rutgers by Seattle last year, he spent the season on the Seahawks’ active roster but did not appear in a regular-season game. He was claimed off of waivers by the New England Patriots in May but released three weeks later.

New theme for iPhone, iPod Touch users

If you’re reading this on an Apple handset, the site now looks much better.

I’ve had many requests for a mobile-specific theme in the last few weeks, and I finally got it up and running tonight.

Based on our traffic from the last year, iPhone and iPod Touch users vastly outnumber all other mobile devices used to access the site. So I went with an i-specific mobile theme. If you’re having trouble reading the site on your handheld, drop me a line and I’ll see what I can do (though I can’t make any promises).

Bears among most valuable franchises

The Monsters of the Midway are (mostly) beloved in Chicago, but what is that worth? Quite a bit according to Forbes Magazine. The Bears made Forbes’ list of the top 50 most-valuable sports franchises — coming in at No. 13.

Forbes valued the McCaskey’s team at $1.08 billion. Most-valuable team Manchester United’s worth? $1.83 billion.

The top five are: Manchester United, Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, Washington Redskins and the New England Patriots.

Bears sign RB Unga

LAKE FOREST — The Chicago Bears have signed running back Harvey Unga to a four-year contract.

Terms were not disclosed Wednesday.

Taken in the seventh round of the supplemental draft, Unga is BYU’s all-time leading rusher with 3,455 yards on 696 carries. He also caught 102 passes for 1,085 yards over four seasons and had 45 touchdowns — 36 rushing and nine receiving.

The Bears have also cut defensive tackle Jimmy Saddler-McQueen and wide receiver Vic Hall. They were undrafted free agents.
